Arthur Rackham

Arthur Rackham (1867-1939) was one of the greatest of all book illustrators, as the images here attest. above is "Norns weaving destiny", illustration to Richard Wagner's The Ring, which just blows me away.

"Fairy Songs" from A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Two illustrations from The Wonder Book, Pandora and the Chimera.

The Rhinemaidens warn Siegfried, another illustration from Wagner's Ring.

"How at the Castle of Corbin a Maiden Bare in the Sangreal and Foretold the Achievements of Galahad", from The Romance of King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table, by Alfred W. Pollard, 1917.

Another image from the Ring.

An astonishing work in a realistic vein, from Rip Van Winkle.

Two illustrations from Undine.

The Rhinemaidens try to reclaim their gold. Many more images here.
